AI facial recognition software SAFR™, developed by RealNetworks, Inc. (CEO: Rob Glaser; head office: Seattle) has joined the Docomo 5G Open Partner Program.
With SAFR’s features, speed, and the flexibility of its system structure through its publicly available API, it is now approved for use as the facial recognition platform of NTT Docomo’s Docomo Open Innovation Cloud™.
RealNetworks’ SAFR™ is facial recognition software that allows processing at 3-5 times the speed of leading competitors, while being highly precise with 99.87% recognition results. In the tests (FRVT) conducted by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in July 2019, SAFR™ was evaluated as the fastest and most lightweight algorithm among those that had achieved a false non-match rate (FNMR) of less than 0.0335. In addition, SAFR™ is highly optimized for facial recognition in live video and is able to identify faces in a feed within 100 milliseconds. Furthermore, it has achieved excellent results even in tests evaluating bias, due to differences in skin color.
Comments from Both Companies
Noriaki Takamura, Asia Pacific Vice President, RealNetworks, Inc.:
“We are very glad to have had the pleasure of developing solutions with NTT Docomo and every company involved in the Docomo 5G Open Partner Program, with SAFR being used in NTT Docomo’s Docomo 5G Open Partner Program. We are glad that we can provide AI facial recognition solutions that will help solve society’s problems through 4G/LTE, and even the 5G service succeeding it.”
Hisakazu Tsuboya, Solutions Service Department Chief, NTT Docomo, Inc.:
“This time, we have had the pleasure of taking part in the planning of Docomo’s Docomo Open Innovation Cloud™ with RealNetworks, which, as a facial recognition engine, boasts the highest standard of recognition precision and recognition speed in the world. Through this program and SAFR, we will provide new added value to access-control systems, marketing systems, and transforming the way we work, among others. In the future, we expect that this will greatly contribute to the ‘co-creation’ that Docomo is conceptualizing.”
